14th June 2010

Dear Parents,

I do hope we have not seen the last of the sun as we have so much going on this half term.

Firstly though a few staffing thoughts. Mrs. Janice Ramsay (formerly Miss. Merrett) will be saying Ellingham Primary School farewell to Ellingham to take up her well earned retirement. Mrs. Ramsay has been with us since 1975… 35 years. I know a vast number of you have had children pass through Mrs. Ramsay’s hands; indeed have also been taught by her! Mrs. Ramsay has made it known she does not want any fuss when she leaves and that is quite understandable as it will be a very emotional time for her. However, we would like to present Mrs. Ramsay with things to remember us by. The staff, obviously, will be ‘clubbing together’ to give her our own small gift. I am sure you will agree with me it would be lovely if pupils and parents, both past and present, could collect together for a special memory present. If you know of any past pupils/parents can you please let them know. If you would like to contribute please send money or huge cheques to the office, in an envelope labelled ‘Mrs. Ramsay’s farewell’. If you would like to add a message on a small sticky label that would be great and will be included in a card.

We also say farewell to Miss. Rayner who is off to help children in less well developed countries than our own. Mrs. Haggar (TA) will also be bidding us farewell.

We have appointed Mrs. Richardson a very experienced teacher to become KS1 leader and Miss. Price to join the KS2 team. I am also delighted to say that Miss. Claire Milkins will follow in Mrs. Ramsay’s shoes as KS2 leader. Individual class teachers and Teaching Assistants will be announced soon.
Luckily the sun did shine on our sports day which was a huge success and produced a large number of personal bests in the indoor athletics and much fun was had on the outside mini sports we had at St. Philip’s. I would like this opportunity to thank class 6 for their fantastic input into our sports week, their organisation of an old fashioned sports morning was brilliant. It was fitting that the staff v children netball and dodge ball games ended in one game a piece.

Our year 6 VE day celebration was joined by parents, grandparents and neighbours who enjoyed the delights of home cooking 40’s style.

Many other school trips have taken place this summer and I am glad to say I have heard nothing but praise for our children’s enthusiasm and behaviour.

The next six weeks are jammed packed with activities:

a)   We have a number of outings and class assemblies, separate letters will be sent out for these.
b)   The school Fair, organised by our small, but dedicated, team of the Friends of Ellingham takes place after school on July 2nd.
c)   Class photos take place on 17th June (extra special combing of the hair would be appreciated!). Please send your child with their school sweat shirts on the day as white shirts blend into the white background.
d)   Golden folder/celebration afternoon takes place on 16th July (morning for year 6). As always if you wish to take your child/ren home afterwards you are welcome to.
e)   Development of Ellingham.
f)     On Wednesday 23rd June you are invited to join your children to watch the big screening of the England v Slovenia game in the hall. Only children accompanied by parents will be allowed to stay for this.
g)   School swimming gala, organised by The Friends of Ellingham, takes place on 15th July.

No doubt I will be writing to you all again this half term as will individual
Class teachers. Of course reports of your children’s progress will be heading your way in the last 2 weeks of term.

Finally school breaks up on 23rd July and 1.15pm and children return on 6th
September 2010 (we have arranged it this way so children do not return mid week, to help you organise holidays rather than take children out of school (staff return for training on 1st September).

Fingers crossed for some lovely weather and please do not forget Mrs. Ramsay’s farewell.

Yours sincerely,

I.P. JONES
